The first of four races at the third round of the Italian F4 Championship, held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, delivered exactly the spectacle expected, featuring intense battles from lights out to the chequered flag.

Starting from pole position, Noah Killion (US Racing) initially held off attacks from his teammate before surrendering the lead on the second lap's main straight to Finland's Luka Sammalisto. Later, the Sydney-born driver reclaimed first place at the Safety Car restart, which followed the collision between George Proudford Nalder (AKM Motorsport) and Lyuboslav Ruykov (Trident), pulling off a spectacular move around the inside into the opening chicane.

Sammalisto briefly dropped back to third before charging back into contention, making the most of the slipstream from the two US Racing teammates ahead of him, Oleksandr Savinkov and Noah Killion. The Finn played a starring role in a thrilling three-way fight for victory before holding on to the lead through a challenging final Safety Car restart on the last lap.

Luka Sammalisto: "To be honest, it was a bit scary. I knew I needed a good restart to keep my position, but I think it went really well. I managed to create a small gap to Noah, so I didn't have to defend too hard into Turn 1. Then something happened there that gave me even more space, and I was able to bring the race home quite comfortably." Reflecting on the race, he added: "Overall, it was a really good race. There was a lot going on. I'm really happy with it. Our pace could have been a little better, but I'm really happy to take the win. A huge thanks to the whole team."

After an outstanding drive, Noah Killion crossed the line in second place.

Noah Killion: "I had some great battles with Sammalisto. At the first Safety Car restart I managed to pull off a good move down the inside. I was surprised myself that I was able to make that pass, it was a really nice move. At that moment I was only thinking about winning the race and taking the lead. In the end I finished second, but I'm still happy with the result."

Third place went to Kenzo Craigie, who also claimed Rookie class honours. The R-ace GP driver and member of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Junior Programme secured his podium finish during the dramatic final lap. Until the last Safety Car, deployed after an incident involving Alexander Ruta (Van Amersfoort Racing), that position had been occupied by fellow Mercedes Junior Andy Consani of R-ace GP. The Frenchman fought hard at the restart in pursuit of his maiden victory but ultimately ended his race in the gravel.

Fourth place went to Alp Aksoy (Prema Racing), who also finished second among the Rookies. The Turkish driver collected valuable championship points but nevertheless slipped to second in the standings, now trailing new leader Sammalisto by four points.

India's Ary Bansal (US Racing) finished fifth, ahead of teammate Oleksandr Savinkov. After spending much of the race battling for a podium finish, Savinkov was swallowed back into the pack after cutting the opening chicane in the heat of the fight.

Seventh overall and third among the Rookies was Arn Levi (Jenzer Motorsport), followed by China's Kwan Zheng (Prema Racing). Simon Rechenmacher (Cram Motorsport) claimed ninth after an impressive performance on his Italian F4 debut weekend.

Rounding out the top ten was Christian Costoya, representing Prema Racing and the McLaren Driver Development Programme. Mexico's Nicolas Cortes (Jenzer Motorsport) finished eleventh, just ahead of teammate Elia Weiss, after the pair enjoyed an intense on-track battle.

Niccolò Maccagnani recovered to finish thirteenth despite a difficult race that included a pit stop to replace a damaged front wing. The final points-paying positions went to Dominik Simek (Trident) and Andre Rodriguez (Cram Motorsport).

Before the final-lap restart, Payton Westcott, the Californian driver for R-ace GP, was running fifteenth overall and leading the Women's Trophy classification. However, she became involved in the final incident and dropped to the back of the field, handing the Women's Trophy victory to Rosanne Den Drijver, the Dutch driver making her Italian F4 debut with Maffi Racing.

The results remain provisional pending completion of the Stewards' post-race technical and sporting checks.

The weekend continues later today, Saturday, June 20, with Race 2 (Groups A-B) scheduled for 5:30 PM. On Sunday, June 21, Race 3 (Groups A-C) will get underway at 9:30 AM. At the conclusion of the first three races, the top 36 classified drivers will qualify for the Final, which will start at 2:00 PM. All races are contested over 25 minutes plus one lap and award championship points towards all classifications.

All races will be broadcast live on ACI Sport TV, the official social media channels of ACI Sport and the Italian F4 Championship, as well as through the extensive international network of broadcasters covering the Italian Formula 4 series.
